CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Police Regional Office (PRO) 3 (Central Luzon) has designated 266 firecracker zones across the region three days before the New Year.
The move is in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte's Executive Order 28, where the use of firecrackers is confined to designated places and conducted under the supervision of a trained person duly licensed by the Philippine National Police.
Brig. Gen. Matthew P. Baccay, PRO-3 director, said Wednesday the firecracker zones in the region are as follows: Aurora, 14; Bataan, 8; Bulacan, 86; Nueva Ecija, 29; Pampanga, 22; Tarlac, 60; and Zambales, 47.
Baccay also disclosed the installation of 169 fireworks display zones in the region: Aurora, 13; Bataan, 6; Bulacan, 66; Nueva Ecija, 23; Pampanga,13; Tarlac, 8; Zambales, 38; and Angeles City, 2.
He appealed to the public to refrain from using illegal firecrackers to avoid injuries.
“Instead of using firecrackers, we could all welcome the New Year with other forms of merriment to ensure a safe and healthy celebration of the holiday festivity," he said in a social media post.
The firecrackers regulated for sale and use are baby rockets, bawang, el diablo, Judas’ belt, paper caps, pulling of strings, skyrocket, small triangulo, and other types that are not oversized, overweight, and imported.
On the other hand, pyrotechnic devices or “pailaw” allowed to be sold and used are the butterfly, fountain, jumbo regular and special, luces, Mabuhay, Roman candle, sparklers, trompillo, and whistle device.
Baccay, together with Col. Manuel Lukban, provincial director of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, visited firecracker stores and warehouses in Bocaue town on Tuesday in a last-ditch effort to prevent the manufacture, distribution, and sale of banned and dangerous firecracker products in the markets.
Baccay also checked the permits and licenses to operate of dealers of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
He directed all chiefs of police in the region to strictly implement the provisions of Republic Act 7183 or the Law on Pyrotechnic Devices, ensure the filing of cases against violators to attain conviction, and closely monitor the status of previously filed cases. (PNA)
