LVMH-owned Chandon has announced the launch of a Charmat method sparkling rosé from the south of France, as Southern French rosé continues its boom.
Hot on the heels of its purchase of Napa’s Joseph Phelps Vineyards, LVMH has made moves in the sparkling rosé category by way of Southern France as it revealed that Chandon would be releasing a new pink fizz using grapes sourced from the south of France.
The sparkler, Chant de Cigales is a blend of grenache, cinsault, syrah, rolle, cabernet sauvignon, mourvèdre, carignan and tibouren, which Chandon says captures the diversity of Southern France.
Chef de Cave Richard Geoffroy described Chant de Ciages as, “the search for a new taste sensation: the creation of a unique rosé sparkling wine, simmering with its fine bubbles, a natural, organic and vegan brut, of innate, floral, salty elegance, presenting a slight tonic bitterness and a delicate and subtle sparkleness.”
It is not yet clear what price the pink fizz will retail for, nor when it will become widely available.
Earlier this year, Moët Hennessy unveiled a rosé housed in a flat bottle made from ‘prevented ocean plastic’ (POP) that’s both a first for Côtes de Provence and the luxury drinks specialist. You can read more on that story here.
